Driving to and from work is one of the best parts of my day. And no, I don’t enjoy being stuck in traffic. I just love the fact that I listen to my favourite podcast while sitting in rush hour traffic.
I was first introduced podcasts while I was working for a South African entertainment website a few years ago. Every Friday, the team (myself included) would record an episode wrapping up the week’s big entertainment stories. We’d sometimes have celebrities as guests. It was really fun – there was no pressure, we were just passionate young people doing what we love.
Fast-forward to late 2017, podcasts have become my favourite thing to listen to every single day.
Here are my favourite:
Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations
I can’t explain how my life has transformed since I started listening to Oprah’s podcast. Every single interview that I’ve listened to has had an impact on my life. In these interviews, the queen of talk speaks to some of the world’s biggest thought-leaders, authors and health and wellness experts. When I say my life has changed I really mean it. I love how authentic the interviews are, I love the honesty, the rawness and of course, the lessons.
One of my favourite episodes is “The Wisdom of Sundays” which I try to listen to before I go to sleep. It is based on Oprah’s book with the same title. The episode features a collection of Oprah’s aha! moments. It is such a blessing.
I also joined her conversations with Marianne Williamson, Iyanla Vanzant, Dr Brene Brown, Glennon Doyle, Elizabeth Gilbert and so many others. I guess you could say I loved all of them! I guess I’m drawn to people who aren’t afraid to live their truth, people who know that being vulnerable is not a weakness but a strength, people who offer their lives as a service to others.
The Potter’s Touch
If you know me well enough, you’ll know that I love me some Bishop T.D Jakes. I’ve been watching his sermons on YouTube since 2012. There is just something special about this man of God. His sermons have played such an important role in my life. He has taught me so much about God, the Bible and just life in general. When those difficult moments come and I am feeling overwhelmed and challenged, I know there’s always a T.D Jakes sermon I can listen to in order to get a different perspective. Some of my go-to sermons include Nothing just happens, Things we learn along the way, Lord, make me an answer and When anxiety attacks. I live for life-changing content.
Myleik Teele’s Podcast
This one has nothing to do with spirituality, as you might know. I love Myleik Teele‘s podcast for a different reason. In the podcast, the American entrepreneur candidly shares her experience in the business world, gives career advice and also interviews some people who are learders in their own right. For a person like me, who is interested in growing in my career and also tackling the business world, this podcast very insightful.
It’s unfortunate that I haven’t been able to find any South African podcasts that I can listen to religiosuly. Maybe the podcast culture is still growing in the country? Or maybe I should start my own podcast? Now that would be something.
